Emulating A Professional Photographer
For this assignment, I decided to emulate the photographer Dave Hill since I really love his aesthetics. Dave Hill focuses on photos for portraits, landscapes, objects and nature environment. I decided to emulate his black and white gallery to show the power of black and white photographs. In Dave Hill's works, he is very good at using various perspective and different lighting to capture the power of nature and the emotion of human beings. In my photos, I try to use back light and long-range perspective to show the power of wild range view like what he did in his landscapes gallery. I think I was successful using the back light to show the silhouette of the landscape, like the tendency of the mountain and buildings in my first photo. Also, the lighting is successful to show the lumpy effect of the swamp and the silhouette of horses in my third photo. The most challenge part of this assignment is to find the appropriate composition for the long-range perspective. For example, in the second photo, I have to use high perspective because I was on the top of the mountain, I cannot have the complete tree in my photo like his whole tree in desert. In addition, in my third photo, if I want to show the reflect effect of the water surface, then the transition line between swamp and mountain is upon the half point of the picture. In order to have the transition line around the half of the picture which can separate the weight for swamp and mountain evenly, I need to lower the shoot point which would flatten the water surface and lost the proportion of water. So in the future, I will try to find a more appropriate composition for my photos.
